Call for Award Nominations

Dear Colleagues,

The leadership of the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities (SAIGE), a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA), would like to invite you to consider nominating a colleague for a SAIGE Award. Each year, SAIGE recognizes individuals that have made a significant contribution to our LGBTGEQIAP+ communities. The award recipients will be recognized at the SAIGE Reception & Awards Event at the ACA Conference in New Orleans in April 2024 and the recipients will be recognized again at the 2024 SAIGE conference (location to be announced).

To nominate an individual, please send an email that includes the following: (1) a short letter of nomination clearly including the name, affiliation, email and phone number of the nominee; (2) any supporting letters and/or documents (e.g., CV) to Dr. Tamekia Bell, Past-President of SAIGE at [email protected]. All documentation should be combined in one pdf file. All nominees will be reviewed and considered by a panel of reviewers. Nominations will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. EST on February 16th, 2024.

The following are the award categories open for nomination:

SAIGE Graduate Student Award

This award has been established to honor a graduate student member of SAIGE who has contributed significantly in one of three areas: 1) Representing or embodying the mission of SAIGE through direct service for SAIGE or in the field of counseling, 2) Furthering knowledge of LGBTGEQIAP+ issues through an outstanding research contribution. 3) Providing service or research that specifically focuses on furthering the knowledge of and commitment to issues of diversity within the LGBTGEQIAP+ communities.

SAIGE Mentor Award

This award is presented to an individual identified as making a significant contribution to mentorship in the SAIGE community and persons within the LGBTGEQIAP+ communities.

SAIGE Ned Farley Service Award

This award is presented to a SAIGE member who has served SAIGE and/or the larger LGBTGEQIAP+ communities through forwarding the mission and values of SAIGE.

Recognizing Excellence in the Field of Counseling LGBTGEQIAP+ Individuals

Our awards recognize leaders in mentorship, research, service, and social justice. The call for nominations begins in the fall. Annual awards are given at the SAIGE reception at the annual ACA conference in the spring. Biennual awards are given every other year at the SAIGE Conference.

Mentorship

  • SAIGE Counseling Program Award
    This award is presented biennially to a counseling program that has demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of LGBTGEQIAP+ awareness and affirmation.
  • SAIGE Emerging Leader Award
    The annual SAIGE Emerging Leaders (EL) Program was developed to allow student and new professional leaders to participate in SAIGE activities, receive mentorship, and connect with professional networking opportunities.
  • SAIGE Graduate Student Award
    This annual award has been established to honor a graduate student member of SAIGE who has contributed significantly in one of three areas: 1) Representing or embodying the mission of SAIGE through direct service for SAIGE or in the field of counseling, 2) Furthering knowledge of LGBTGEQIAP+ issues through an outstanding research contribution. 3) Providing service or research that specifically focuses on furthering the knowledge of and commitment to issues of diversity within the LGBTGEQIAP+ community.​
  • SAIGE Mentor Award
    This annual award is presented to an individual identified as making a significant contribution to mentorship in the SAIGE community and persons with the LGBTGEQIAP+ community.

Research

  • SAIGE Research Grant
    The purpose of this annual grant is to fund research that supports the mission of the SAIGE.
  • Outstanding Article of the Year
    This annual award is presented for an article identified as exceptional in relation to LGBTGEQIAP+ issues.​​​​​​​​

Service

  • SAIGE Joe Norton Award
    This annual award is presented annually for an outstanding contribution to the LGBTGEQIAP+ community in the city or region in which the ACA conference is held.
  • SAIGE Legal Award
    This award is presented biennially to an SAIGE member, or an organization, that has demonstrated a commitment to the LGBTGEQIAP+ community’s legal rights and equality.
  • SAIGE Ned Farley Service Award
    This annual award is presented to an SAIGE member who has served SAIGE and/or the larger LGBTGEQIAP+ community through forwarding the mission and values of SAIGE.
  • SAIGE Presidential Service Award
    This annual award is presented to the previous President, identified by the SAIGE President, for outstanding service.
  • SAIGE Public Health Award
    This award is presented biennially to a SAIGE member who has demonstrated excellence in LGBTGEQIAP+ community public health services, outreach, and/or research.

Social Justice​

  • SAIGE Anneliese Singh Queer and Trans People of Color Award
    This award is presented biennially to an SAIGE member who champions for queer and trans people of color.
  • SAIGE Mark Pope Social Justice and Advocacy Award
    This award is presented biennially to an SAIGE member who demonstrates a profound commitment to inclusion and equity for the LGBTGEQIAP+ community through social justice and advocacy efforts.
